ReadyCalculator

Blind & Shade Size Calculator

Plan inside or outside mounts with confidence. The tool applies factory deductions, overlap allowances, and depth requirements for popular shade types.

Finished size

Width 35.75"
Height 59.50"

Adjustments

Factory deduction: width 0.25", height 0.50"

Depth & install tips

Depth allows for a fully flush mount.
Roller shades need room for the tube and brackets. Measure width at the top, middle, and bottom; order using the narrowest measurement.

How to Use This Calculator

1

Measure carefully

Inside mounts require exact frame measurements. Outside mounts add overlap to block light and cover trim.

2

Check hardware clearance

Compare your frame depth to the recommended minimum and flush depths for the selected shade type.

3

Order using the finished size

Provide the finished size to your retailer. Do not deduct additional width for inside mounts.

Formula

Inside mount width = measured width - 0.25" (factory deduction)

Inside mount height = measured height - 0.5"

Outside mount width = window width + 2 x side overlap

Outside mount height = window height + top overlap + bottom overlap

Example: 36" inside width and 60" height → order 35.75" wide x 59.5" high. Add 2" side overlaps for blackout → outside finished width 40".

Full Description

Custom blind orders hinge on precise measurements. This calculator walks you through inside and outside mount sizing, applies standard deductions, and flags depth concerns before you submit your order.

Whether you hang roller shades, faux wood blinds, or verticals, the tool provides the finished width and height along with installation tips tailored to the shade type.

Bring it along during site visits to confirm clearances or when helping clients choose between mount styles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do manufacturers deduct width for inside mounts?

They remove about 1/4 inch so blinds operate freely inside the frame. Provide the exact frame size and let them take the deduction.

Can I install blinds with shallow depth?

Yes. Use outside mounts or spacer blocks, but expect the headrail to project beyond the trim.

How much overlap should I use for outside mounts?

Two to three inches per side covers most trim. Increase side overlap to four inches for blackout shades.

Do different shade types need different depths?

Yes. Roller and cellular shades are compact. Faux wood and vertical blinds require deeper frames. Always review depth requirements.
