How to Use This Calculator

1

Define your work window

Enter the total minutes you can devote to focused work in a day. Deduct meetings and admin tasks for accuracy.

2

Customize session and breaks

Adjust focus length or break durations to match your preferences. Some people prefer 50/10 or 45/15 splits.

3

Plan your daily output

Use the results to block your calendar, set task goals, or decide how many Pomodoro sessions to schedule.

Formula

Cycle Length = (Focus × Sessions) + Short Breaks + Long Break

Cycles per Day = Floor(Day Minutes ÷ Cycle Length)

Sessions Completed = Cycles × Sessions + Extra Sessions

Example: 8-hour day with 25/5 sessions, 4 per cycle, 15-minute long break → Cycle = 4×25 + 3×5 + 15 = 130 minutes. 480 ÷ 130 ≈ 3 cycles, 12 sessions, 300 min focus, 120 min breaks.

Pomodoro Best Practices

Alternating focused work with breaks combats mental fatigue. Customize intervals to suit your attention span and energy levels.

  • Protect sessions with do-not-disturb mode and prepared task lists.
  • Use breaks for movement, hydration, or quick journaling to reset your mind.
  • Batch similar tasks within one session to stay in flow.
  • Review progress after each cycle and celebrate completed sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use 25-minute sessions?

No—Pomodoro is flexible. Try 20/5 if you’re starting out, or 50/10 for deep work. This calculator supports any duration.

What if I get interrupted?

Pause the timer or restart the session. Log interruptions to identify patterns and set better boundaries.

How many cycles should I do per day?

Many professionals aim for 8–12 sessions (4–6 hours of deep work). Give yourself breaks to avoid burnout.

Can teams use Pomodoro together?

Yes—use shared timers or focus blocks. Align cycles so you take breaks at the same time for quick check-ins.
