How to Use This Calculator

1

Count eyelet pairs

Count the holes on one side. Each pair combines matching holes on the left and right.

2

Measure spacing

Measure the distance between the columns (horizontal) and between rows (vertical) in inches.

3

Choose a lacing style

Select the pattern you plan to use. The calculator applies the matching formula.

4

Review the length

Check both inch and centimeter recommendations and round up to the nearest available lace size.

Formula

Total length = pattern segments + tie allowance

Diagonal segment = sqrt(horizontal^2 + vertical^2)

Criss-cross: (pairs - 1) * 2 * diagonal + horizontal + tie

Straight bar: (pairs * horizontal) + ((pairs - 1) * vertical) + tie

Hiking: criss-cross formula + 10 inches if pairs ≥ 6

Example: 7 pairs, horizontal 2 inches, vertical 1.5 inches, tie 30 inches gives about 62 inches.

Full Description

The shoelace length calculator saves time when ordering replacement laces or planning custom footwear projects. By measuring eyelet spacing, you can estimate the length required for your preferred pattern without guesswork.

Criss-cross lacing fits most sneakers, straight bar suits dress shoes, and hiking lacing keeps boots secure on long walks. Adjust the tie allowance if you prefer double knots, decorative laces, or thicker materials.

Retail staff can recommend the right lace size to customers, parents can standardize uniform shoes, and hobbyists can experiment with different patterns while keeping consistent fit and appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my measurements are in centimeters?

Divide the centimeter values by 2.54 to convert to inches, or measure directly in inches for the most accurate result.

When should I add extra length?

Increase the tie allowance if you use thick laces, double bows, or decorative lace locks.

How do I handle boots with hooks?

Select the hiking style option. It adds 10 inches when the boot has six or more eyelet pairs for lock loops or hooks.

Can I use this for children shoes?

Yes. Use the same inputs with the child shoe measurements. Round down to avoid very long laces that may drag.

Do I need to press calculate?

No button is required. The calculator updates automatically when you adjust the inputs.
