Standing Desk Height Calculator
Enter your height to discover ergonomic desk and monitor settings that keep posture neutral and shoulders relaxed.
Adjust for shoes—heels change forearm height and the ideal keyboard position.
Heels or insoles change standing height. Enter 0 if barefoot.
90° is standard. Slightly open angles (100–105°) reduce wrist extension.

How to Use This Calculator
Measure your standing height
Stand tall and measure from floor to top of head. Wear typical work shoes to capture actual height.
Choose an elbow angle
Most ergonomic guides recommend 90°–100°. Slightly open angles (up to 105°) reduce wrist flexion at the keyboard.
Adjust the desk and monitor
Set keyboard height first. Then raise the monitor so the top third is at eye level, avoiding neck strain.
Formula
Keyboard Height ≈ (Height + Shoe Height) × 0.585
Monitor Height ≈ (Height + Shoe Height) × 0.93
Adjust keyboard height for chosen elbow angle (±)
Example: 5′10″ (70 in) person with 1 in shoes → Keyboard ≈ 41.0 in, Monitor ≈ 65.5 in. Angle tweaks lower or raise the keyboard slightly.
Standing Desk Tips
Alternate between sitting and standing throughout the day. Proper heights minimize fatigue and repetitive strain.
- Use an anti-fatigue mat to reduce leg strain and add 0.5–1 in to your height.
- Keep wrists neutral—consider a negative tilt keyboard tray if needed.
- Reposition monitor arms when switching from sitting to standing.
- Take microbreaks: step away or stretch every 30–60 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I measure keyboard height?
Measure from floor to the top of the keyboard home row keys. If using a thick keyboard, include its height in calculations.
Should I keep elbows at exactly 90°?
90° is a baseline. Many ergonomic experts recommend 90°–100° to relieve shoulder tension and reduce wrist extension.
What about dual monitors?
Align the primary monitor at eye level. Tilt secondary monitors slightly inward; keep the top edges even to avoid neck rotation.
Can I use this for sitting height too?
Use in combination with the seated desk calculator to record both presets on sit-stand desks.
