How to Use This Calculator

1

Enter age and weight

We estimate a daily milk requirement and match it with pumping frequency for that age group.

2

Adjust the goal if needed

If your pediatrician recommended a specific daily volume, enter it to customize the plan.

3

Implement the schedule

Use the suggested times as a template. Consistency helps maintain supply.

Formula

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should each pumping session last?

Usually 15–20 minutes, or 2–3 minutes after milk stops flowing. Some pumps shut off automatically.

What if I can’t meet the daily goal?

Partial pumping is still beneficial. Supplement with donor milk or formula if advised by your pediatrician.

Can I combine sessions?

Yes. Use power pumping or longer sessions strategically, but avoid gaps longer than 6 hours in the first months.

Do I need to pump overnight?

Early on, yes. After supply is established, you may stretch one overnight gap if daily volumes stay adequate.

How much freezer stash do I need?

Aim for 2–3 days of extra milk (around 50–90 oz) for emergencies. Rotate stored milk using FIFO method.
