Immersed Weight Calculator
Find apparent weight in a fluid from true weight, volume, and fluid density.
How to Use This Calculator
1
Measure weight in air
Use a scale to get the object’s true weight in newtons.
2
Find object volume
From geometry or by displaced water volume when fully submerged.
3
Select fluid density
Water ≈ 1000 kg/m³ at room temperature; adjust for other fluids.
Formula
F_b = ρ g V, W_imm = W_air − F_b
Buoyant force equals the weight of displaced fluid. Apparent weight is reduced by this buoyant force.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the immersed weight ever be negative?
No. If buoyant force exceeds true weight, the object floats and the apparent weight is effectively zero.
Do I need object density?
Not directly. You need the object’s volume and weight in air for this calculation.
