Exoplanet Travel Planner Calculator
Quick estimate of interstellar travel times (non-relativistic approximation).
How to Use This Calculator
1
Enter target distance
Use light-years. Example: Alpha Centauri ≈ 4.37 ly, Proxima ≈ 4.25 ly.
2
Set cruise speed
As a fraction of c. 0.1 means 10% of light speed.
Formula
t ≈ D / (v/c) (years)
For more precision at high speeds, include relativistic time dilation: t = γ D/(v/c), ship time = t/γ, where γ = 1/√(1−β²).
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this include acceleration and deceleration?
No. It assumes constant cruise speed and ignores acceleration phases.
What about relativistic effects?
Not included here. At high β, Earth-frame time increases by γ, while ship-frame time decreases by 1/γ.
