RMS Voltage Calculator

Convert Vp or Vpp to VRMS for sine waves

How to Use This Calculator

1

Choose Input Type

Select whether you have peak (Vp) or peak-to-peak (Vpp) voltage for a sine wave.

2

Enter Voltage

Provide the corresponding value in volts.

3

Calculate

Click Calculate to get the RMS voltage.

Formula

VRMS = Vp / √2

VRMS = Vpp / (2√2)

Where:

 • Vp = Peak voltage
 • Vpp = Peak-to-peak voltage

Example: Vp = 10 V → VRMS = 10/√2 ≈ 7.071 V.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this assume a sine wave?

Yes. The formulas shown apply to pure sinusoidal waveforms.

Can I convert RMS to peak?

Yes: Vp = √2 · VRMS and Vpp = 2√2 · VRMS.

What about non-sinusoidal signals?

RMS depends on waveform shape. The simple Vp/√2 relation does not hold for non-sinusoidal signals.
