๐ŸŽฝ Age Grade Calculator

Convert your race time into an age-grade score to benchmark against age-adjusted world-class standards.

Age on race day (years).

Use mm:ss for short distances.

Age Grade

77.4%

Regional Class

Standard Time

37:10

Age-adjusted elite benchmark

Open Equivalent

44:46

Equivalent performance at age 20

Age grading aligns performances across ages and sexes. An 80% score indicates national-class ability; use your grade to target personal bests and training zones.

Formula

Age Grade % = (Standard Time รท Your Time) ร— 100

Standard times originate from World Masters Athletics (WAVA) data. We interpolate between published five-year age blocks to approximate individual-age standards for each event.

Example

45-year-old female runs 10 km in 47:30. Standard = 40:55 โ†’ Grade = (40:55 รท 47:30) ร— 100 โ‰ˆ 86%. Equivalent open performance โ‰ˆ 41:40.

Variables

  • Standard Time: Elite benchmark for age/sex
  • Your Time: Finishing time in seconds
  • Age Grade %: Benchmark score

Understanding Age Grading

Age grading lets you compare performances across ages, sexes, and distances on an even playing field. A higher percentage reflects stronger relative performance.

What the Grades Mean

  • 90%+: World class, medal-level at major masters championships.
  • 80โ€“89%: National class; likely competitive at national championships.
  • 70โ€“79%: Regional class; strong club-level results.
  • 60โ€“69%: Competitive local runner with solid training base.

Use Cases

  • Set performance goals independent of age by chasing higher percentages.
  • Compare different distance results by converting everything to age grade.
  • Monitor long-term progress as you age without relying solely on raw times.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate are these standards?

We use interpolated World Masters Athletics tables. For official scoring, consult the latest WMA/WAVA release.

Can I add my own distances?

This version covers popular road events. Future updates may include track distances or custom uploads.

Does a higher grade mean faster times?

Yes. Age grade reflects how close you are to age-adjusted world bests. Higher percentages indicate stronger performances.

What if my age is between table entries?

We linearly interpolate between five-year blocks to provide a smooth score across ages.

Can I compare different distances?

Yes. Use age-grade percentages to compare a 5k vs marathon performance on equal footing.
