How to Use This Calculator

1

Enter current rating

Use the official ICC rating prior to the fixture.

2

Provide matches counted

Matches forming the current rating (ICC weights newer matches up to 30).

3

Add opponent rating

Opponent strength influences points earned.

4

Select result

Win, tie/no-result, or loss—see how your rating changes.

Formula (Simplified)

New Rating = (Current Rating × Matches + Match Points × Weight) ÷ (Matches + Weight)

Match points are calculated from the opponent rating plus bonuses for wins (+50) or penalties for losses (−50). Weight depends on how many matches are already counted towards the rating.

Example

Current rating 112 after 28 matches. Beat an opponent rated 105. Match points = 105 + 50 = 155. Weight = 1 (still under 30 matches). New rating ≈ (112 × 28 + 155 × 1) ÷ 29 = 113.5.

Variables

  • Current rating: Team’s pre-match ICC rating
  • Matches: Weighted matches forming rating
  • Match weight: 1 if ≤ 30 matches, else 0.5

Understanding ICC Ratings

ICC ratings are moving averages that reward wins against stronger opponents and penalize losses to lower-ranked teams. Newer matches carry more weight to reflect current form.

Key Points

  • A series result is treated one match at a time; ratings update after each fixture.
  • Winning away or against higher-rated opponents yields larger rating gains.
  • Ratings can fluctuate sharply early on, then stabilize beyond 30 matches.

Apply Insights

  • Project ranking movements after upcoming fixtures.
  • Assess how many wins are needed to climb the table.
  • Evaluate risk of rating drops when facing lower-ranked teams.
